Session 1 – Supplies
And here is your supply list! Please note: Most supplies can be substituted with things you already have on hand. We always encourage you to experiment and play with supplies and invent new techniques! Any links given below are for your convenience only.
– Paper: In this session we will be using mostly medium-weight paper: magazine pages, old letters or book pages; hand-painted printed paper, imagery from books…. just gather what you have on hand and naturally gravitate to. I tend to organize collage bits by “size”: Small pieces, medium pieces, larger sheets… also, I have a bowl of “trash” bits… things too small to use for much, but save them, too, because we will use them!
– glue sticks, any kind
– matte medium, any kind
– scissors and/or exacto knife
– a selection of pencils and pens; various markers and oil pastels, colored pencils, water soluble markers (what you have is fine).
– watercolors and acrylic paints (any brand)
– brushes, various sizes
– a sketchbook or two with stiff paper. I usually use two sketchbooks at a time so that if one is drying, I can work in the other. Also, it’s nice to have a larger and smaller one. The sketchbooks I’ve been loving for this are the Dylusions “Creative Journal” by Ranger.
– About 10-15 pieces of 8.5”x11” transparency film, any kind (some examples can be seen here: https://www.ebay.com/bhp/transparency-film) it doesn’t need to be printable, but if you want to purchase for Anne’s fall session too, hers should be printable. The main thing is that it is plastic and see-through!
– Gelli® Plate (I use an 8”x10”, but any size should work)
– brayer or two (I like to have a “wet” brayer and a “dry” brayer)
– access to printer and copier
– About 6 sheets of larger watercolor paper, about (9“x12”) for when you want to work a little larger than the sketchbooks. I will use a hot-press Fabriano 140# paper.
– Large wood panel for final collage painting, any size (I’ll work on an 18”x24”)
– white gesso
– medium-grit sandpaper
– various magazines to cut up
– clear packing tape, blue artists’ tape
– Several acrylic paint markers, one dark color
_________
That’s it for now! Thank you again and we’ll see you very soon!

Pens from your collection: Bic, Paint Pen, Ink, Paint Brush Pens, color pencils
Stamping Ink Pad: Red or yellow or whatever you have on hand.
Scissors: regular scissors
Paints: Minor amount of acrylics, use what you have maybe buy one nice red or quinacridone gold.
Burnishing tools: if you want to save money use the edge of the glue stick. Edges of scissors or bone fold or side of felt pen works great.
Cardboard: Thick cardboard or matte board or just glue a several thick pages together till strong enough. 2 pieces for front and back book covers or use for every page to strengthen and add weight to your book which will be nice.
Collage – misc. paper items: Thirft-stores. basement book shelves, estate sales, ebay. art stores. Magazines, ask around, library book sales, church sales and garage. Use what you have on hand!
Glue stick: At least 4, I buy by the case on Amazon. Wood glue or white/add a little color to create a glaze, to use in some areas of your book or vase. I like:
