Mini Artist Books

Thank you for signing up for Michèle Landsaat’s new class, Mini Artist Books! Michèle creates beautiful worlds and stories with her work in printmaking and etching, and in this class she brings that magic to us in the form of little art books. She helps us find our own narratives and  shares her techniques for creating pages and assembling three mini artist books.

Class Dates: July 9-19, 2024. You will receive an email on the Friday before class begins with the class forum links.

Here is your “pre-assignment” from Michèle!

Lessons are pre-recorded and are now instantly available… and here are the forum links to this class:

Full Supply List

(But always feel free to substitute with items you already have in your studio!)

  • Sketchbook
  • Paper for your project :
    • select papers you like to draw or paint on that can also be folded into a book. My work is somewhat delicate so I prefer lightweight Japanese papers such as Okawara student & Kitakata (you just need a few sheets as we will be working small)! I work with other Kozo and Gampi papers; here is one you can find on Amazon.
  • Also select heavier papers for your cases/covers: I’ll be using BFK Rives and Canson Mi-Teintes 160g
  • Scrap paper
  • Oil paint: black or dark blue or some dark color (or get a cheap set of oil paints. I found one at my local art store for $9.99)
  • India Ink
  • Paint brushes (I work small so I use 00 to 4 round brushes)
  • Black Gel pens from fine to thick
  • Pencils, colored pencils &/ or markers
  • Binder’s thread & needle
  • Two binder clips to aid with bookbinding. I prefer the tiny 15mm / .6 inch binder clips because I tend to work small.
  • Bone folder
  • X-acto knife, Scissors
  • Cutting mat
  • Metal ruler to measure, tear and cut paper
  • Glue stick
  • Cotton balls or paper towels
  • For cleanup: Hand wipes & Paper towels, etc.

Optional Supplies:

  • Other drawing tools and paints you like to work with
