Hello and a great big GigAntic welcome to the JOy of Mixed Media Assemblage!!

Working with found objects inside a boX!

What could be more fun than combining all of our favorite things and working within a box format?? Mixed-Media Assemblage allows us to explore collage, drawing, altering photos, painting, altered found objects, storytelling, composition and more!

I would be thrilled to share with yOu all the techniques, tricks and tips that I have learned working in assemblage. It is so much fun… from finding the perfect box to laying down and collaging a background to altering photos and found objects, to attaching and gluing and to special little ways I have developed to make your work finished, framed and ready to hang on the wall.

This class is all about yOU, and using your voice to make things that make your heart sing! You will play the “pieces-parts” game, which is fantastic way of seeing how many fresh combinations that you can come up with. If you have a fabulous stash of found objects and old photos, this is the perfect project, if you need more, its a great excuse to go “on the hunt!” We will work with “found” boxes and/or cradled wood panels.

Supplies

• Two or more shallow boxes to work in. These can be either found or store bought; any size, between 1″-4″ deep.
• “Pieces & Parts”: Found items from thrift stores, antique stores, garage sales, the ground… can be anything from metal springs to wooden eggs to old books to ribbons to Scrabble tiles to…? Just gather your stuff!
• Collage fodder. A selection of old papers, new papers, patterned and solid colors. You should also have old family or found photos printed in color on heavy paper to use as a focal point (Lynn recommends 80# or card stock).
• Tools: You might need/want a hand sander, drill, screwdriver, jigsaw, pliers, cutting blade
• Glue: clear silicone and “Yes” glue; also possibly liquid Nails and Aleena’s tacky glue
• Raw Umber acrylic paint; other colors of your choice. (Lynn loves Creamy White and Cadmium Red Deep Hue for her red… Liquitex Basics acrylic Paint work well and are affordable .)
• Liquitex Gloss Medium
• #3 or #4 pencil
• Plastic scraper (from the hardware store… even an old credit card will work)
• Serrated sewing tracing wheel for “dot dot dot”
• Several paintbrushes, range of sizes
• White rag
• Container for water
• Plexi glass (you will need to have this cut down to size; you might wait until the class is in session for more details)
• Scraps of foam board or wood blocks (again, you might wait for the class for more details)
• Picture framing wire, cut (or carpet) tacks, small screws and screw-in wire holder

Here’s how this online class works:

• As a self-study class, so you have access to all of the lessons right now and can work the lessons on your own timetable.

• You have indefinite access to this class.

• You can (optionally) share your work with Lynn via email or via the class Facebook page. Since this is now a self-study class, you will need to let Lynn know if you upload work, as she doesn’t check the Facebook page as regularly. Click this link and ask to join the group!

• Class fee is good for participants living in a single household.
