Class Description
An Illustration Class with Henrik Drescher
Fall Semester 2024
Live Zoom Sessions Every 3rd Saturday, beginning Sept. 14, 2024 at 10am PT!
Class Description
In this class, we will meet live via Zoom for five sessions from September 14 – December 7, 2024. During the Zooms I will be discussing a selection of your uploaded assignment work where we can talk about what worked, what didn’t, and why; give demonstrations and explanations for the next Project; and take time for questions and answers. The three weeks between assignments allows you to really sink into the projects and upload your ideas and finals to the Facebook portal, our goal being to open up a new personal visual world while developing your unique illustration style. I hope this will be a great opportunity to get to know each other and inspire each by working in a live environment.
This new class distills my years of teaching illustration at the School of Visual Artis and Parson’s Design in NYC into 4 projects designed to shake free new ideas and ways of approaching your art.
Project #1 – Extraterrestrial Diary. Imagine you’re an extraterrestrial visitor. Create a visual diary documenting your observations of life on planet Earth.
Project #2 – Shut Up! Create a visual story that captures the essence of someone or something that won’t stop talking.
Project #3 – I Saw Journal. Start a daily practice of drawing your observations. Begin each entry with “I saw” and challenge yourself to view the world from a different mental angle.
Project #4 – Anato-Me. Create a series of anatomy drawings that explore your identity or your relationship with someone else.
The projects created for this class have been shaped by a lifelong engagement with art and a wish to share my passion for creativity… and I hope you will join me!
